St Katharine Docks Hosts the Start of the 2013-14 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.

St Katharine Docks is to host the fleet of 12 yachts and 650 crew of the 2013-14 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. At 40,000 miles, it is the world’s longest, visiting 14 ports in six continents.

This will be the ninth edition of the biennial event, conceived by legendary yachtsman Sir Robin Knox-Johnston. Sir Robin became the first person to sail solo non-stop around the world in 1968-69 and established the Clipper Race in 1996 to offer amateurs of all ages, from all walks of life the opportunity to experience the thrill of ocean racing and a circumnavigation of the planet.

This year’s event will see the debut of the third generation Clipper 70 ocean racing yacht. The fleet will be hosted in a race village at St Katharine Docks, central London’s only marina and the official Clipper Race start and finish port. The boats will begin and end their global journey in the Thames in front of Tower Bridge, and are expected to return in July 2014.

St Katharine Docks provides a unique and stunning setting for the spectacular yachts, which are expected to arrive there from 24 August; ahead of the race start on 1 September. Our store is perfectly located at the centre of the event, offering a large range of boating and outdoor leisure clothing by Henri Lloyd and Weird Fish alongside our traditional brass instruments, model ships, and collectables. We look forward to welcoming you.
