LAST REMAINING LIVE STEAM LOCOMOTIVES
Due to the very high production costs, Hornby have decided not to make any more of their Live Steam range once current stocks are exhausted. We love this range and will be sorry to see it sell out. However, on some of the most popular lines we have secured all the remaining stocks for our customers, and also reserved quantities of the other lines with Hornby so we can offer you a chance to buy from the remaining stocks.

Don't worry about on-going maintenance and supplies for your Live Steam equipment, Hornby will continue to stock engine lubricating oil and spare parts for the range.

Hornby Live Steam locomotives are powered by real steam and NOT an electric motor. Water is heated in the tender-mounted boiler (powered by electricity from the track) supplying steam to a fantastically miniaturised working steam engine which is attached to the water tender. It is possible to vary the speed and drive the locomotive in forward or reverse. They are compatible with all 00-gauge track and rolling stock. However, they must run on a separate route from any other 12V analogue or digital locomotives as they require a different voltage that comes from the dedicated transformer/steam controller.
