Sundials are one of the oldest ways of telling the time and to celebrate this age old tradition, we have a range of sundials such as the replica Scrimshaw box sundial where the string serves as the gnomon and there is a simple dry need compass for alignment.

Portable sundials were early watches and used when travelling.  These sundials, the Dolland portable sundial for example were used by explorers and navigators to tell the time anywhere in the world.   To enable this, the gnomon can be set for latitude on a sliding scale and the whole instrument oriented for direction by a magnetic compass in the base.
