6572 Golden Hind Shove Ha'penny, £39.95

Shove Ha'penny has its origins in games that have been played in English taverns and inns since the 15th century. Players take turns to shove coins along a board, scoring a point if their coin comes to rest within a bed (area bound by two horizontal lines) the winner being the first to score three times in each bed. Our beautifully made slate version is named after the Golden Hind, the ship in which Sir Francis Drake circumnavigated in 1577, and which featured on the back of ha'penny coins from 1936. It has a brass header plate with contrasting copper hapenny inlay, and is supplied with a set of six pre-decimal Golden Hind ha'pennies, of which half are polished smooth on the heads side and half on the tails. Measures 17x12", weight 13-lb. Scoring chalk supplied.
