Straight away the feel and smell of the wool in this traditional
Guernsey sweater reminds you of the sea. Made from English worsted yarn specially waxed to make it water-repellent, yet colourfast, these sweaters just seem to improve with age and wear. The yarn-making process and pattern have been handed down through the generations - the sweater produced today would still be recognised by a
Guernsey fishermen of 400 years ago, or even Nelson, who chose them for the Royal Navy.
These days, of course, they're made partly by machine, all in theBritish Isles , but still hand-finished by islanders in the Bailiwick of Guernsey. This type of sweater is traditionally worn tight, next to the skin, so these sizes are actual garment measurements. If you prefer a looser fit, or to wear a shirt beneath, we recommend ordering one or two sizes larger.
Reviewed in Watercraft Magazine, David Parker described them as: "comfortable without being baggy, very warm and like all good classic designs they've got nothing to do with fashion which suits me fine." He also bought the sample!
