“Sooty” started life as a fairly plain-coloured bear named “Teddy”, who assisted with magic tricks. He was given a new name and looks the night before his TV debut, when it was realised he wouldn’t stand out well in black-and-white (it was 1952).
A black mouth and nose were hastily sewn on, and his ears blackened with soot – the rest is history…
Our Genuine Steiff Sooty replica is made of finest mohair as a Limited Edition of 2,000, with a special gold-plated Steiff button-in-ear.
