In the film 'The Cruel Sea', Jack Hawkins stood on the bridge of his frigate tracking U-Boats. It was foul weather, but the hero looked ruggedly warm and defiant wearing a traditional naval duffel coat.

Made of coarse woollen cloth from Duffel, in Belgium, the coats had become standard wear at sea during the war because they were warm, inexpensive and hard wearing.
Our English-made duffels are traditionally styled, with warm hoods, two deep pockets, and the choice of wooden or horn toggles with rope loops. Made of 70% wool, 30% man-made fibre, they look good on men and women.
