Amazingly this beautiful 00 gauge model of the world's most famous steam locomotive, the Flying Scotsman, is driven by a real steam engine - NOT electric motors. Water is heated in the tender-mounted boiler (powered by electricity from the track) supplying steam to a fantastic miniaturised working steam engine up front. It is possible to vary the speed and drive the locomotive in forward or reverse. The set (the box is a work of art in itself!) includes everything you need to get going: from the engine, control/transformer units and track (a loop measuring 8'x3'6") to lubricating oil, gloves and maintenance tools. It will run for about 20 minutes on one filling of water.

The detailing is incredible, from the sprung buffers to the "dead man's" handle speed control - this product is superb. Engine/tender combined length 12".

PLEASE NOTE: Live Steam Flying Scotsman is compatible with all 00 gauge Hornby rolling stock (not included) and track, but must run on its own route powered by the transformer supplied (it uses a different voltage to standard engines).
