Admiral Lord Nelson's body was brought back to England aboard HMS Victory,
preserved in a barrel of brandy. He was then put in a coffin made from the
mainmast of the captured French ship L'Orient, a trophy from a previous
battle. This coffin was placed in a lead-cased elm coffin for the journey
from Chatham to Greenwich, where it was put into the third and final state
coffin, represented here. In keeping with his status as a national hero, this outer coffin was lavishly decorated with emblems and insignia representing naval and military success. 6'8" long and 26"
broad, it was covered in the finest Genoa black velvet, secured with over 10,000 double gilt nails (whose pattern is replicated here by gold thread).
Our 1:25 scale exact visual replica is hand-crafted from oak recovered from
HMS Victory, decorated in gold-plated brass. Just over 3" long, includes
comprehensive colour booklet including paintings of the funeral and a
facsimile of The Times with the coffin on the front page. Limited Edition of
500.
