Nauticalia

This is a basic, lidded, dry needle compass, in the style of those that preceded modern liquid-filled versions. As such it would be difficult to use at sea, and, now there are better-damped units, is really more ornamental than practical (though it does work). There is a lever to stop the needle swinging, so that a bearing can be read. Diameter 3". It is all brass (apart from the needle!), and can be engraved on top.
