Schatz is the leading manufacturer of classic ships' instruments, and one of very few that still make the mechanical chiming movements that were so familiar to the naval and merchant seaman of 100 years ago.

The Schatz Royal barometer and thermometer is callibrated in millibars (metric uinits of pressure) and millimetres (mercury units of pressure). The lower half of the dial has a thermometer that measures in Celsius (centrigrade) and Fahrenheit.

The intricate workmanship is protected in stove-lacquered, solid brass cases or with thick glass ports, secured by brass scuttle clamps. They have black hands and numerals on white dial.
