97566 Tendency Barometer, £195.00
Scotsman Alexander Adie introduced his "portable barometer for nautical conditions" in 1818, and it was commonly used on board ships up to about 1870. Like the Contra Barometer it uses the differences in density between two liquids to magnify the scale - in this case 2.5 times, but was much more compact (the tubes do not have to be so long) and did not contain any mercury. This beautiful replica is situated in a glazed wooden cabinet alongside a thermometer, hygrometer and storm bottle. Case measures 21 x 6.5"
