Everything about this delightful model shouts "precision". It is made to such fine tolerances that it will work on a tiny differential in heat between the top and bottom of the cylinders. This could be your hand, or to make them go a little faster, a cup of coffee or ice (which will make them go in reverse!). As you might imagine, this requires the piston to be exceptionally light, and the cylinder to be assembled in a sealed room with positive pressure (so no dust gets in) - we don't think there can be any other "desk ornament" made to such a demanding specification.
