When Sir Francis Chichester sailed Gipsy Moth IV into Plymouth on 28 May 1967 he had broken countless records to become an instant national hero. His achievements were all the more amazing considering that he had been diagnosed with lung cancer five years earlier, and given only six months to live. Gipsy Moth was put on display in dry dock at Greenwich in the expectation that she would never sail again. But over the next 35 years she suffered the ravages of acid rain, tourism and neglect, and by the turn of the century she was in such a sorry state, that something had to be done. The UK marine industry clubbed together to fund her restoration, and decided that the most appropriate option was to put her back in service as a sail training ship to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Chichester's voyage. During the repair work shipwrights found many parts of the hull in need of replacement, including a large section of her mahogany keel. It is from this material that we have made the bases for this LIMITED EDITION commemorative model. She is portrayed in her current livery to a high level of detail that has been approved by the Gipsy Moth Trust. Length 12.5", height 14".

Limited Edition of 500
