Before the age of laptops and email, explorers, military officers and aristocrats on the “Grand Tour” needed somewhere to keep their writing materials, and something on which to write. Portable laptop desks fulfilled both roles, and could be included in one’s travelling trunk.

This replica has fold-out flaps to give a working surface up to 20x16”, with one large storage compartment suitable for paper etc, and seven smaller compartments for ink, pens, stamps, paper clips and so on. It’s all very nicely made, from French-finish mahogany-stained solid wood. Two turned wood dipping pens and a bottle of ink are included.
