Swallows & Amazons Fine Bone China Collection
Write about what you know is sound advice for authors, and Arthur Ransome certainly took it to heart. For the children in the Swallows and Amazons stories, sailing was a passion. And it was one that Ransome shared wholeheartedly. In a life spanning eighty-three years he owned six yachts - including the seven ton Nancy Blackett - and numerous small skiffs and dinghies.
An experienced mariner who had cruised the Baltic and made several trips to Holland and Cherbourg, he was really in his element on Lake Windermere and his favourite - Coniston Water. With certain imaginary variations, this was the setting for most of the twelve Swallows and Amazon books.
In this ceramic collection from William Edwards, Ransomes own illustrations form the decorative motifs. Theres the Lake itself - complete with Wild Cat Island - rowing boats, dinghies, sailing boats and scenes from the stories.
For everyone who enjoyed the books, secretly envied the characters, or simply appreciates decorative fine bone china - it's irresistible.
