About RMS Titanic - On the evening of 14 April 1912 the supposedly unsinkable Titanic hit an iceberg and sank with the loss of over 1,200 lives, during her maiden voyage. It remains one of the worlds most infamous shipping disasters because so many of the deaths could have been avoided. So confident were White Star Line in her unsinkable design, that she did not have sufficient lifeboat capacity for all those aboard. Tragically therefore, many of those who managed to escape the sinking ship were lost to the freezing North Atlantic.
