A factory to build the Ferdinand Porsche designed “People’s Car” was built at Wolfsburg in 1938, but the outbreak of WWII meant that Beetles never really started rolling off the line before production was turned over to military vehicles. After the war, under the control of (Brit) Major Ivan Hirst, the project was resurrected, and over 20 million of the cars were then made during the next 40 years or so!

This 1:12 scale diecast model of a 1949 Beetle has stunning deep gloss black paintwork, with over 400 parts and amazing miniature details from engine components to the tool kit. Doors, steering and suspension all work, as do the B-pillar “trafficators”. You can even change the wheels, with tiny wrenches and tinier still wheel nuts.
