The basic concept of knocking over pins with balls dates back to Ancient Egyptians. "Old English Skittles", the traditional London pub game, is thought to have been brought to the UK by Dutch sailors during the 17th Century. Certainly it was most popular in establishments clustered along the River Thames, which tended to be frequented by seafarers. OUR GARDEN SET - (main picture), designed for outdoor use, is deliberately chunky, so makes a satisfying "thunk" on impact. Skittles weigh 10-oz each and are 6.5" tall. Balls are 3" across. SMALL CARPET SKITTLES - are 3" tall, comes supplied with storage box. LARGE CARPET SKITTLES - are 4" tall, come supplied with box. Simple, but great fun!
