93233 1971 Lotus 56B Model, £109.99

The early 1970s was a chaotic era in motor racing, defined by wild experiments and peculiar designs. Lotus, with their model 56, were exploring the aerodynamic advantages of a distinctive wedge design, moving on from the traditional ‘cigar’ shape.

The 56’s list of innovations included four-wheel-drive and a gas turbine aircraft engine. Colin Chapman, intending to use a single design in both the Formula 1 and Indy 500 series, developed the 56B. Unfortunately, the large fuel tanks that enabled it to run an entire race without refuelling also made it too heavy to be truly competitive in all but the wettest conditions. Beautiful, ambitious, and radical, the Lotus 56B was soon consigned to history.
Faithfully replicated at 1:18 scale, our die-cast model includes a wealth of detail right down to the pedals, instruments, and even fabric seatbelts. Body panels can be removed to reveal that impressive jet engine.
