Superbly Detailed Limited Edition De Havilland - Only 75 Will Be Made
93614 Amy Johnson's Jason, £199.00
***Limited Edition of 75***
Amy Johnson was a true pioneering pilot. Amongst her many achievements she was the first woman to fly solo to Australia (1930), to Japan (1931) and across the Atlantic from east to west. Her 1936 flight from London to Cape Town knocked 10 hours off the existing record. The solo flight to Australia was taken in Johnsons own plane, a De Havilland she named Jason. To commemorate 75 years since her somewhat mysterious death, apparently on secret government business, and perhaps shot down by friendly fire .this model of Jason was commissioned. And it certainly does her memory justice. Instead of diecast metal, the fuselage is painstakingly carved from solid mahogany. Then its sanded to a glossy silkiness before 35 coats of enamel paint are applied.
The wings are authentic fabric on wooden frames with the decals and numbers providing the finishing touches.
Mounted on a display stand 'Jason' is a splendid collectors piece and a stunning tribute to the worlds most celebrated aviatrix. Jason is preserved and on display in the Science Museum in London.
1:22 Scale. Length 9½", wingspan 12".
Numbered and certificated Limited Edition of just 75.
