"I leave Emma, Lady Hamilton, therefore, a legacy to my King and Country, that they will give her ample provision to maintain her rank in life."
Nelson's simple inscription in his journal on the morning of the Battle of Trafalgar expressed a long-cherished notion that the Establishment would perhaps forgive Emma in the event of his death. Sadly and tragically his request was ignored and Emma died penniless in Calais just a few years later. Now, in this bicentenary year, here is a pair of exquisitely sculpted figurines which at last honour Emma in the way Nelson would have approved - side by side with the man she adored. Sculpted by Bob Russell and then cast and hand-painted by renowned ceramic artist David Fryer, these beautiful figurines are probably the finest and most accurate representations of Emma and Nelson ever created. Emma is wearing 'the Naples dress' which she wore to greet Nelson when he landed in Naples immediately after the Battle of the Nile. The 'Nelson' and 'Bronte' stitching around the hem of the dress shows the detail to which Emma had gone to make an impact with her hero. And with some effect, apparently, for it was here in Naples that they began the affair which became the scandal of Europe.
Standing more than 14 inches tall on a base of Victory Oak.
Only 3 of each of these figurines will be made.
