Most people associate steam engines with transportation - trains and traction engines, but they were at least as important in stationary form, as power sources for workshops and factories. By converting chemical energy (coal) to mechanical energy (typically rotation of a drive belt), huge amounts of manual labour could be saved and the Industrial Revolution was born. These fully functional working models are fascinating to watch as they do exactly the same thing, albeit on a vastly reduced scale. Both items can be used to power the Steam Driven Lamp (96412) below or the Steam Driven Swing Boat (96414) also below.

Large Stationary Steam Plant - ready-built (ref 96411, black base) large brass stationary steam plant which is ready-built and comes finished in contrasting highly polished brass and black, this version is the larger and more powerful of the two, and comes ready-built. Condensed water collects beneath and emerges from the chimney as "smoke". It has a centrifugal governor and a steam jet oiler. Base measures 10 x 8", chimney height 9.5".

Small Stationary Steam Plant - kit-form (ref 97571, blue base) a simplified, less powerful, version supplied in component form for you to complete at home. The boiler house and chimney are copper plated and embossed to look like brick. Base plate measures 8 x 6", chimney height 9".
