98390 Woodman's Pal, £44.04

Designed in 1941, the Woodman's Pal has been in service with the US and other militaries ever since. It was primarily intended for brushcutting - at which it excels - but was also issued during the Vietnam War with a book on its use in hand-to-hand combat.

The beautifully balanced 8" main blade will slice through branches up to 1½"   thick in one go, whilst the 2" chisel ground sickle hook is perfect for pulling roots, or clawing your way through tangled weeks and shoots. Like Japanese chisels, its cutting edges are specially hardened, so they stay sharper for longer, but the rest of the metal is left relatively soft for resistance to impact or extreme cold. A tough powder coating reduces corrosion.

Supplied with black cordura sheath and honing stone. Made in the USA.
