Vanguard Class Submarine Challenge Coin Collection
93628 Vanguard Class Coins, £39.99
Historically, challenge coins were carried by members of an organisation (often a military unit) to prove membership when challenged. Frequently they are given in respect of special events or operations, or in recognition of achievement, or exchanged during visits to other organisations.
Challenge coins inevitably became popular collectable items amongst service personnel and, later, civilian collectors.
The Vanguard class of submarine was introduced into the Royal Navy in 1994, as the backbone of our nuclear deterrent, and consists of four boats: HMS Vanguard, HMS Victorious, HMS Vigilant and HMS Vengeance. The reverse of each coin shows the Royal Navy Flag.
Each is represented by one of the gold-plated coins in this official boxed set that has been supplied to the Royal Navy for presentation to the boats Captains.
Coins diameter is 44mm.
