The problem is old, the solution here. When the rain is doing its worst it is often accompanied by a great deal of wind. If you do risk using an umbrella, it breaks when a gust catches beneath it and then you get soaked anyway? Our "windbrellas" have a special double canopy that lets wind through from below but not rain from above. The fibreglass ribs are stronger than normal steel ones, and the canopies are long-lasting, UV resistant nylon, so they can be used as "sunbrellas" too.
