98016 Dalvey Sedan Clock, £85.00
Sedan chairs were popular throughout Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries, giving the occupant a reasonable level of comfort and privacy without the hassle of negotiating narrow streets in a horse-drawn carriage. Inside, they often featured distinctive circular flat pendant clocks; these would hang from a single point in a simplified version of the gimballing on ships' chronometers (thus staying more upright, for greater accuracy). This elegant replica is made from highly polished stainless steel with a large convex lens to the cream face, and comes with a stand to hang it from.
