Nearly gone - we have just 4 left!
On the 3rd July 2013 The National Railway Museum in York hosted a very special gathering. Six Class A4 locomotives were reunited to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Mallard's 126mph speed record for steam traction a record which stands to this day.
Designed by Sir Nigel Gresley and built between 1935-36, the Class A4s were the streamline 'bullet trains' of their era.
In this superb painting by David C Bell Mallard - shown centre stage - is flanked by Bittern, Dominion of Canada, Union of South Africa, Dwight D. Eisenhower and Sir Nigel Gresley. The combination is hugely impressive and quite possibly unique.
Mounted and framed size 18x11".
About David Bell
David C Bell was born in Lincolnshire. After attending Trinity House Navigation School in Hull, David Bell embarked upon a career at sea as a navigating cadet in the Merchant Navy. Having spent time at sea drawing and painting he felt his true course in life was to paint full-time. So, after nine years sailing around the world as a ship's navigator, he left the sea to become an art student. After gaining a B.A. in Art David Bell set about fulfilling his ambition as a Marine Artist.
David Bell is best known for his maritime watercolours, but has an almost equal enthusiasm for historic planes and trains; bringing unique life to subjects we all know and love.
