VHF radios need an operator's licence (which many of us don't have), and mobile phones can cost a fortune, especially when used overseas (if they work there at all). These new splashproof state-of-the-art Walkie-Talkies are the way to avoid both problems and are also light, small and inexpensive, making them an excellent way to communicate between yacht and dinghy, or campsite and foraging party. Their range is about two miles, with an amazing 304 channels (8 main, each with 38 sub-channels) to reduce the chance of interference from other users. The rechargeable batteries supplied give a standby time of about 21hrs, which can be extended by replacing them with standard AAA-size disposable batteries if required. Each unit measures approx 5x2". Supplied in pairs, but with individual chargers for multi-location use.
