97891 King's Cross Station Clock, £175.00

From the Thirty-Nine Steps to Brief Encounter, railway stations have been linked with suspense, excitement and romance. The great 19th century stations - Victoria, St. Pancras, Waverley - were neo-Gothic cathedrals built to the glory of the new deity: steam and each had clocks that were dignified, handsome, imbued with gravitas. Proper clocks - a far cry from the gimmicky digital displays of today.

London's King's Cross had a particularly fine example, and that was the inspiration for the timepiece featured here.

The face is classic, with metal hands and hours marked by Roman numerals. The surround in bevelled wood with a brass-effect bezel has a distinct, vintage elegance.

With a deep wooden box back, it measures an impressive 20x20” by 5” deep.

Quartz movement takes 1xAA battery (option to purchase batteries will appear in your shopping basket).
