Few aircraft are as instantly recognisable as the SR-71 ‘Blackbird’ reconnaissance plane. Operational from 1965-98, it was capable of flying at speeds in excess of Mach 3 and 80,000 feet, and has held the speed record for manned, powered flight since 1976.

This detailed 1:72 scale model is of the ‘YF-12C’, which was actually the second SR-71A made. It was on loan to NASA for propulsion and flight testing and was given a fictitious serial number 60-6937 to maintain secrecy – it resides today in the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona.
