Write about what you know is sound advice for authors, and Arthur Ransome certainly took it to heart. For the children in the Swallows and Amazons stories, sailing was a passion. And it was one that Ransome shared wholeheartedly. In a life spanning eighty-three years he owned six yachts - including the seven ton Nancy Blackett - and numerous small skiffs and dinghies. An experienced mariner who had cruised the Baltic and made several trips to Holland and Cherbourg, he was really in his element on Lake Windermere and his favourite - Coniston Water. With certain imaginary variations, this was the setting for most of the twelve Swallows and Amazon books. In this ceramic collection from William Edwards, Ransome's own illustrations form the decorative motifs. There's the Lake itself - complete with Wild Cat Island - rowing boats, dinghies, sailing boats and scenes from the stories. For everyone who enjoyed the books, secretly envied the characters, or simply appreciates decorative fine bone china - it's irresistible. GREAT OFFER - SAVE 15% when you buy three items from the Swallows and Amazons Fine Bone China range. GREAT OFFER - SAVE £50 when you buy the complete set.

William Edwards

William Edwards was born in Stoke on Trent - the heart of 'The English Potteries' - and returned there after graduating from the Royal College of Art to set up business in a former canal barge repair workshop on the Trent & Mersey Canal. Although the heyday of Stoke's mass pottery production is long past, William Edwards is renowned for high quality and collectable English fine bone china.
