Tide are influenced by the orbit of the moon around the earth. However, unlike the earth's 24 hour cycle the moon orbits at a slightly longer 24 hour 50 minutes, thus our tide clock movement completes a cycle of the 'clock' in 12 hours and 25 minutes. Our Neptune tide movement is housed in a smart brass case lacquered finish, to prevent tarnishing, and a convex glass front. Measures 4" in diameter and requires 1xAA battery (supplied).

Brass

Brass - an alloy of copper and zinc - is easy to work with, can be polished to a gleaming shine, and it has a high degree of corrosion resistance, making it the traditional choice of metal for use in harsh marine environments.

Tide Clock

Tide clocks provide an at-a-glance indication by means of an additional hand that takes approximately 12 hours and 25 minutes to go 'round the clock'. Because the lunar cycle varies in length day by day, but is constant over a cycle of 28 days, there will be times when the tide indicator varies by a few minutes ahead of or behind the actual tides.

Do you sell any tide clocks that would work in the Solent area (bearing in mind the vagaries of the tides involved)?
All our tide clocks operate on the basis of a 12hr 25min cycle, which provides a good at-a-glance guide in most areas. However, in specific locations with particularly unusual tides, such as the Solent, they will not provide a high enough degree of accuracy to be relied upon for navigation.
