Details
Nelson’s famous saying “I see no ships” was actually made to “justify” his disobeyance of an order to disengage from the Danish fleet off Copenhagen in 1801. Clearly disagreeing with the order, which was made in anticipation of heavy losses, he lifted his telescope to his blind eye and uttered the now famous words. Within the hour the Danes were defeated, with British casualties being a sixth of their enemies. This solid brass, leather bound x2 magnification telescope is presented in a polished wooden box carrying a brass plaque engraved with HMS Victory and finished with brass inlay corners. Telescope extends to 7". Box measures 5x2½".
